Barny Quilt Along Block #5
Saturday, April 20, 2013
Here is my fourth barn block. At first I didn't like it, I couldn't figure out why but it has grown on me:) I am now a third of the way done with the blocks. I finished this one while at quilt camp last weekend. It is alot of fun to go but I definitely get alot more sewing done when I am at home, less distractions. I love to talk with all the ladies and see what everyone is working on. Here are all the blocks together:) So darn cute!

Barn Block #2
Here is my second barn! Finished it up Saturday morning bright and early. Woke up about 6am and was thinking about this block so decided to just get up and get it done:) I love the blue fabric around the center. It came from a box of fabric that I won at an auction. The deceased woman had cut a bunch of squares out with a scissor that she had traced by hand. Boy am I glad we have rotary cutters now!

The Quilty Barn Along!
I truly love old barns, so much so in fact that I wish we had one on our property with a loft in it that I could convert into a sewing studio! Anyway, enough of the daydreaming! When I saw the Quilty Barn Along with Lori Holt from Bee In My Bonnet blog, I knew that I had to join in on the fun! So here is my first block! I am so smitten with it, can't wait to get started on #2! Here is the link for the tutorial if you want to go check it out:

Snowflakes are falling!
It's so fun to have a quilt just for winter/Christmas! I am finally posting about this quilt that has been done for ahile now but just haven't gotten around to writing about it yet! This quilt has 90 snowball blocks in it so it took me a little over a year to get it pieced together because sewing that many blocks get a little monotonous! This was my first attempt at the starch applique method for putting the snowflake points on after I got all the layer cakes snowballed. I have to say I was really leary at first but I like how it turned out. Here is the link for the pattern: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/07/snowflakes-are-falling.html it's by Piece N Quilt using the Fruitcake line by Basic Grey from Moda. My awesome longarmer, Val did the machine quilting using an overall with various snowflakes of all different shapes and sizes, she can be found here: http://www.onawingquilting.com/Location.html I used wool batting so it's nice and snuggly on these cold Minnesota winter nights. This morning we woke up to -20 below and that's without the windchill added!

Sierra's quilt
Here is the quilt that I made for my niece, Sierra, who just turned 16. This is the quilt that I did as part of a zig zag quilt along with www.mommybydaycrafterbynight! I did have to inform Sierra and her mother that it was not a blanket, that's an insult to a quilter. Hehe. This one was a lot of fun to make and I even quilted it myself on the big longarm! I chose the quilting pattern, sticky buns. I hope Sierra cherishes this quilt for years to come!
